Treatment of Gingivitis / periodontitis
Gingivitis and periodontitis are both microbial inflammations that attack the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the event that the inflammation is limited to the gums, it is called gingivitis, while when the inflammation progresses deeper into the tissues and the adjacent bone, then we refer to periodontitis.
The disease can exist without giving any symptoms, especially in the initial stage, for this reason a preventive clinical examination by a dentist every six months is considered absolutely necessary for the necessary cleaning and re-check.
Periodontal disease manifests itself as swollen, red, itchy gums that usually bleed when brushing, while the mouth has a strong odor. If the disease is not treated, the teeth become mobile and eventually fall out.
The cause of the disease
The cause of periodontal disease is the absence of daily meticulous oral hygiene, which leads to the proliferation of microbes present in the mouth, which, in combination with the microbes created by food residues – microbial plaque – turn into pathogenic microbes and develop into intense inflammation in the gum area and jawbones.
Treatment of gingivitis requires patient planning, consistency, good oral hygiene with proper brushing, flossing, interdental brush and mouthwash, and cleaning by the dentist.
