Teeth whitening
The removal of pigments and discolorations from the teeth in an artificial way in order to return the teeth to a natural, bright white is called teeth whitening. Whitening is one of the most popular methods of improving a white natural smile, which is achieved in many different ways – products.
Teeth whitening is usually done in the dental office but can also be performed at home after preparation of the teeth in the office. It only affects natural teeth and not artificial restorations, such as veneers, composite or porcelain crowns.
The materials used for teeth whitening are completely safe for both the teeth and the individual’s health. The procedure is considered nearly painless, with only slight sensitivity or discomfort during the whitening process, which subsides immediately afterward. It is recommended to use Sensodyne Repair and Protect toothpaste and apply Calmodent gel, both of which are specialized for addressing the sensitivity that may occur during whitening.
Teeth whitening is divided into two main methods:
In-office Teeth Whitening:
It is the most effective method, performed in the dental office in just 45 minutes using specialized equipment.
The results of teeth whitening vary from person to person and are influenced by daily habits such as smoking, or the consumption of coffee, tea, red wine, etc. To prolong the whitening effect, regular dental cleanings should be performed every six months, and the at-home whitening process should be repeated every 4 to 6 months for 1 to 2 days.
At-home Teeth Whitening:
It is performed at home using custom-made whitening devices (trays or clear aligner-like trays) in which a special whitening gel is applied. Before starting the at-home whitening treatment, a dental check-up is done at the office to assess for any cavities or gum disease and to perform a dental cleaning.
If the patient experiences sensitivity to the whitening product, a special medicinal product is provided to reduce tooth sensitivity, ensuring comfort during the whitening process. This helps alleviate any discomfort that may occur.
